Information on this German legend?

I am looking for information about the German legend of Der gro�e Mann. Every time I look it up, I get results in foreign languages or pages regarding Slender Man. I don't want to hear about the Something Awful Forums or Slender Man. I want the actual legend, anything and everything I can get. The Scottish (or Irish? I'm not sure which it is, or if there's both...) version would be welcome as well.
