Generally speaking what dog is fast - GSD or Labrador?

My 5 month old german shepherd seems quite slow and clumsy... Im worried he has hip problems. When my german shepherd is chasing this 6 month old labrador, the labrador is alot faster and he can't keep up. Are german shepherds fast?
